My name is Emily Phillips and I am a professional school counselor at Brody Middle School.
FAQ About the Counseling Office: What can/should I use the school counselor for? Students and parents should utilize the counselor's office for academic support, social/emotional issues, and college/career readiness. What does the school counselor do? School counselors foster the well-being of the school system and the students through helping each student grow in their own personal, social, and academic lives, as well as collaborate and work as a team with classroom teachers, administrators, students, and their families to build a safe and supportive environment for learning. What is it like to meet with a school counselor? School counselors do not provide long term individual or small group counseling like therapist do. But, I will work with you to provide the best resource for community counseling. During short term counseling, I use solution-focused therapy techniques to address a wide range of issues. I believe providing a supportive and non-judgmental space helps students problem solve when issues arise. How can I get a hold of the counselor? You can contact me through my email ([email protected]) or through the "Request to see a counselor" page on this site, which is where the referral form is located. Students may drop in to see me, email me, or fill out the referral form as well. |
